Public service announcement of the weekend:
Don’t stare at gnomes and drive. This could happen to you in Billings, Montana.
Your trusty travel gnome,
Sheldon
Howdy, fellow travellers! I read another gnome blog awhile back that boasted of glorious heads carved into rocks. Naturally, I assumed they were gnome sculptures. I walked my weary ceramic feet over a thousand miles to Mount Rushmore just to see this supposed gnomish phenomenon.
I must say I’m disappointed. Dead white human dudes` heads? Really America, really!? Is that all you’ve got?
The highlight of my trip was meeting a pink monkey. She was a tourist as well and pretty sweet for a little fuzzy creature. There were not any humans watching the dead sculpture heads though, which I found terribly ironic.
Oh well. As. Travelling gnome, I make the best out of every travel situation. I even had a chance to create an original Sheldon work of art. I sketched out Mt. Gnomemore and I plan to make it a reality.
Mark my words.
Until my next adventure report…
Sheldon the Gnome

A Palmerston North student has been fined after stealing a garden gnome from a woman’s property on
his way home from a night out drinking.
Police found Christopher William Field, 18, in possession of the gnome, which he said he’d taken for his
mother.
“You keep to the footpath on the way home,” Judge Gregory Ross told him in the Palmerston North
District Court yesterday.
On a charge of theft, Field was fined $250.

AHH! Tuscon has a Gnome Fest?! How did we just hear about this now?!
QUICK! Everyone book a flight to Arizona STAT!
They’re trying to set the Guinness World Record of largest number of people dressed as garden gnomes. What an awesome record!
At least 479 people need to dress up this Saturday at the 2nd Annual Tucson Gnome Fest. The current record holder is the UK (damn those Brits) with 478 people dressed up as gnomes at the Foyer of Malvern Theaters in Worcester.
Worcester….isn’t that a sauce? And that record was set back in 2011. It’s time for America to step up and dress up like gnomes. Shiiiiiit….
There’s supposed to be a beard competition (ya’ll goin’ down), food trucks (yum), drawing contests (ya’ll goin’ down again), and lots of other awesomeness.
If you dress up, you also have a chance to win a big ass TV or electric guitar. We need those things in The Gnome Abode!
A whole bunch of bands are playing too so check out the lineup on the Metro Gnome Music page.
If you can’t find your old gnome costume in the back of your closet, they’ll sell you a hat for 5 bucks. Don’t worry….2 of those bucks go to the Humane Society….because gnomes are cool like that.
This article is how we found out about the event!

People have been collecting lawn and garden gnomes for centuries…some more than others. Although gnomes have always been most popular in England and Germany, some of the world’s largest gnomes are hanging around where you’d least expect them….Northern California.
As featured in the magazine, Interesting America, Gnome Habitat USA showcases more than 2,000 gnome figurines and collectible items in the foothills of Auburn, California. Master collector, Liz Spera converted a barn on her property into a private museum to celebrate her long love affair with the miniature creatures.
Spera began collecting gnomes in 1979 after reading the popular coffee table book, Gnomes, by Wil Huygen. She opened the museum in 2008 as a place where gnomes can “live, work, and play.” Hand-crafted gnomes made of terra cotta, clay, cement, wood, porcelain, and plastic line the shelves and walls of the museum, as well as within her unique and beautiful yard and home.
Spera does not charge any admission to enter her museum, but donations are accepted to help her with upkeep and improvements to the museum. To schedule a viewing and tour, contact Spera at 530-899-9922 or [email protected].
In case you still still haven’t seen enough gnomes, head on over to Gnomeman’s Land in Santa Rosa, California. Long-time collector and enthusiast, Jean Fenstermaker, turned her backyard into an overwhelming number of gnome figurines surrounding a meticulously-landscaped yard and miniature displays.
In an interview with SF weekly, Fenstermaker commented about her love of gnomes, “They bring nothing but good luck to my garden, and it always makes me smile to look at their happy faces.” Jean’s collections features hundreds of gnomes of varying types, which have been featured featured in US and foreign garden journals and filmed for Home and Garden TV network.
Spera is the editor of the International Gnome Club Newsletter and Fenstermaker regularly writes articles for the tri-yearly publication. Annual membership dues are $15 and members are encouraged to write articles about their own gnome collections and sightings.
